I’m always looking for new ways to balance my mind, body and soul. I found balance, relaxation and peace of mind at a float center in Brooklyn where I had my first experience in a sensory deprivation tank.  A sensory deprivation tank is basically a tank filled with water that also integrates enough Epsom salt to allow you to float on the water’s surface. With the water at skin temperature and with 1000 pounds of Epsom salt in the water, your mind is free of distraction and your body is free of gravity. While being in total darkness your imagination can run wild.

I recently heard about sensory deprivation and I was so excited about it that I couldn’t wait to get into one of those magic tanks as I would call them. I went to Lift in Brooklyn. They have two types of tanks, one of them resembles a giant egg with a clamshell lid which includes an option for music. You can control the volume or choose no music at all. The second one is called The Ocean Float Room which is accessed by a side door. This one features a 7-foot high ceiling adorned with a starlight effect. It allows you to contemplate the infinite as you begin your journey. The Ocean Float Room here did not include an option for music.

It was my first time and I wanted to start with the Ocean Float Room. I got in the tank, put on the supplied ear plugs, grabbed the inflatable pillow and began my relaxation journey. I started with the lights on while I acclimated to my new environment, but then I turned them off as I felt more relaxed.

The sensory deprivation tank allows you to enter a state of deep relaxation. It allows you to obtain the mental silence you need, all while providing the ability to reconnect with yourself. This alone delivers a massive stress relief that will, in time, lead to a better mental health and stability.

Since your body will enter a state of happiness via floating, this will allow you to free your mind and meditate properly. Thanks to the sensory deprivation tank you can easily enhance creativity. Using the tank on a regular basis can help you solve personal problems a lot easier and also help you obtain a better insight on your life.

When my 60-minute session ended, relaxing music started playing which means it was time for me to leave the tank. After leaving the tank I was more aware of my surroundings. It felt as if I had the best nap ever. My skin felt so smooth and I had a huge smile on my face. I highly recommend you guys to try it.
