Hello everyone, I would like to share with you a list of my favorite hippie movies. I’ve watched these films over and over, the scenes, places and freedom presented in each and one of them is fantastic. Sit back, enjoy and relax… free yourself!
Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong teamed up for Cheech & Chong: Up In Smoke, which features the stoners duo on a road trip throughout California. Up in Smoke is their debut film, this rock’n’roll comedy brings craziness, laughter, and the good humor these two can put together. Being on a road trip in California during the 70s, immersed in a magical adventure you can imagine where this film is leading to… enjoy!
Everything about this film is amazing, Jane Fonda is in it so you can imagine… After going trough a difficult divorce Diane (Catherine Keener) decides to go upstate New York with her children, to visit her outgoing hippie mom Grace (Jane Fonda). Diane hasn’t seen her mom in 20 years for different reasons. The weekend getaway turnout being a summer adventure full of adventures, hippie experiences and love affairs.
The film is the true story of Elliot Tiber, set in 1969. He was an aspiring interior designer, his parents owned El Monaco Resort in Bethel, New York. Due to a financial problems the motel had to close but Elliot pleads with the local bank to avoid foreclosure. The family is given until the end of summer to pay up. Woodstock was chosen as the location for the music fest and Elliot steps playing an important role in the generation-defining event by helping organizers secure Max Yasgur’s nearby farm for the festival and offering the El Monaco as the home base. The rest is history… watch this incredible film and you will know what I’m talking about…
The film is based on a Manhattan couple who move to a liberated community that rejects the rules of contemporary society. George (Paul Rudd) and Linda (Jennifer Aniston) are facing problems due to stress of living in the city when George loses his job. They decide to move to Atlanta and stay with George’s brother until they can get back on their feet. They ended up finding Elysium, a small, free-spirited community where money has no value, clothes are strictly optional, and everyone works together to make life more meaningful. This place becomes a wanderlust for this couple that needed a break in their stressful lives. The adventures they find in Elysium are endless, watch the film and get ready to dream.
5. Hippie Masala (2006)
The film focuses on the lives of hippies that migrated to Asia, specifically documenting the lives of six Hippies who chose to remain in India. Cesare from Italy, Erica and Gillian from South Africa, Hanspeter from Switzerland, Meera from Belgium and Robert from the Netherlands.
As Jamie travels in Chile, he invites an eccentric woman to join his group’s quest to score a fabled hallucinogen, a move that finds him at odds with his new companion, until they drink the magic brew on a beach at the edge of the desert.
